Widnes Vikings picked up their first points of the season with a comfortable victory over Halifax. The Vikings, who have lost all their previous four games against Leeds, St Helens, Hull and Bradford, move off the bottom for the first time in SuperLeague VIII.

New stand-off Julian O’Neill had a solid start in his second spell at Widnes, kicking 5 goals after Adam Hughes failed to convert any of the Widnes tries in the first half. Halifax threatened to make a game of it but late tries for Widnes meant the score was more one-sided than the game.

Man of the Match Daniel Frame scored two tries, as did Chris Giles and Dean Lawford, who had an excellent game as usual. Widnes’ other try scorers were Adam Hughes and Andy Hay.
