Matchwinner Mo hails Traianos

Matchwinner Moritz Lanegger was quick to praise team-mate Anastasios Traianos after the dramatic 89-88 win at Worcester Wolves.

While it was Lanegger that landed the decisive three-pointer on the buzzer, it was the Greek’s contribution in the 40 seconds prior to that which ensured the Giants had a chance in the dying seconds.

Lanegger said: “I had a good feeling all game. It was an OK shot, it wasn’t the best shot, but it went in.

“The two threes from Anastasios before that were just as important as the last shot, otherwise it would have been over by then.

“But we kept fighting, we never stopped playing and it paid off in the end.”

The Giants were down seven points with just 37 seconds left, and landed four three-pointers in a near-perfect finale.

It marked a second successive win, following the 91-79 win over Surrey last weekend, and it moves the Giants off the bottom of the league table.

Lanegger added: “We were happy. It was a tough game. We didn’t play our best basketball, but we kept fighting. The game last week was much better from us, but we stuck in there and we go home with the win.

“We had an OK game. We had it in control in the first half, and we should have been up by at least 5/6/7 points at half time.

“We made some stupid turnovers which we’ve got to correct, you’re not always going to play your best, you’ve just got to keep it tight in defence and keep fighting.

“Anastasios made the two important, two tough shots to keep us in the game and fortunately they missed one free throw and that was our window.

“Bristol are behind us now in the standings so we don’t want to lose any games at home, we want to make it three wins in a row and take it from there.”

The Giants are back in action at home this Sunday, when Bristol Flyers visit the Trafford Sportsdome for a 5pm tip-off. Come and help cheer the Giants to a third successive win! CLICK HERE
