Garbelotto – Final means everything

Mersey Tigers coach Tony Garbelotto has laid it down to his players this week ahead of the BBL Trophy Final against Guildford, saying the season is on the line.

The Tigers will play in their second final of the season at the O2 Arena on Saturday, but they will be looking to avoid a repeat of their BBL Cup Final humiliation at the hands of Sheffield Sharks in January.

Having targeted a clean sweep of four trophies at the start of the year, Garbelotto has now challenged his side to make sure they pick up the remaining three.

He said: “I’ve been giving the guys a message in preparation this week – this to me is everything.

“The season’s on the line here, and we can still get to a stage where we can win three trophies, which is the minimum I think that this team should achieve.

“We are playing a lower ranked team so if we do everything we should do, we will win the game on Saturday, but we’ve got to remember, there are two teams in it, it’s a one off game, it’s on a unique court and we’ve got to be ready.”

Tony Garbelotto will be speaking on the BBC Radio Merseyside Breakfast Show on Friday March 4th from 8.30am, previewing Saturday’s match.
